8/25/2022 Aces @ River Cats Recap

The River Cats were unable to make it three in a row over the first-place Reno Aces, as the Reno smacked Sacramento, 13-4, to get their first win of the series.

The ball was carrying at Sutter Health Park tonight, as the two teams traded solo shots in the first inning. Reno quickly retook the lead in the second, as Jose Herrera hit a two-out double off of River Cats’ starter, Tristan Beck, to knock in Dominic Canzone, and give the Aces a 2-1 lead. Reno then put up a three spot in the top of the fourth after Beck set down their first two to expand their lead to 5-1.

However, the River Cats came charging back with a pair of two-out runs in the bottom of fourth of Aces’ starter, Corbin Martin. Catcher, Jhonny Pereda, hit a solo shot off the roof of the clubhouses out in left-center for the first run; and Dixon Machado doubled Ford Proctor, and just like that, the Aces’ lead was cut in half to 5-3.

The lefty, Joey Marciano, came in for Beck in the top of the fifth. Dominic Fletcher reached to start the inning after first-baseman, Jason Krizan, got handcuffed on a throw by Machado. However, Marciano easily set down the next three men he faced on nine pitches, as he struck out Seth Beer (swinging) and Wilmer Difo (looking), and got Dominic Canzone to ground out to second to end the inning. Taylor Widener came in for Reno in the bottom of the fifth, and with two outs, Jason Krizan hit a solo home run to left to make it 5-4.

However, the Aces exploded late in the game, as they scored two in the sixth; four in the seventh; and two more in the ninth to make it a laugher. The two ninth inning runs came off of Jason Krizan, as the flat-out insulting practice of letting position players going in and lobbing batting practice is in Triple-A as well.

Anyway, the River Cats fall to 52-68, and are 16 games back of the Aces in the Pacific Coast League West.

As long as he’s not called up before the game tomorrow, Sammy Long will make the start for Sacramento tomorrow night, against Brandon Pfaadt in game 4 of the series.
